I’VE NEVER WRITTEN ABOUT MY TRAVELS BEFORE!

We’re here to help! It’s quite an exciting feeling to have the thoughts and ideas in your head become something that you and others can actually read. If you only have a topic, rough paragraph, or even a few bullet points of what you want to talk about; just write them to us in the box at the end of this page and we’ll help you develop it.

We’ll help edit and layout your article. You’ll always have the final say.

WHAT SHOULD I WRITE ABOUT?

Anything about your experience! You could focus on one experience or a place (like this article), a guide of places to go (like the one we did here), an overall feeling - good or bad - you have towards travel… the list goes on.

We have six categories: Places & Spaces, Traveler Profiles, Travel Money Diaries, Art x Travel, An Ode to…, and Everything in Between. You could also read through our articles to get a better sense.

WHAT DOES BIRDS OF PASSAGE LOOK FOR?

• YOUR voice - no barriers, that means embracing your vulnerability. Write honestly like how you would write in your journal, talk to a loved one, or think during those quiet moments. We want your take on your experience.

• Vivid Descriptions - not just “I did this, and then went to that place”, but describe how you feel! You want to make the reader feel like they are there experiencing it with you.

• Uniqueness - Try to talk about aspects of your travel experience that’s not been overdone. Even if is commonly written about, try to find your angle.

• Visuals - It would be perfect if you have quality photos, videos, or even graphics. You don’t necessarily have to be a professional photographer with a massive DSLR, but clear pictures do the trick. But if you don’t have this, it’s fine! We’ll try and help source and design some for you.

OPTION A: CRAFT AN EMAIL

• Say hi and introduce yourself! We’ll add this to the “About the Contributor” section

• Give a little background of your story

• Attach your article in document form, preferably Microsoft Word

• Attach photos in the email, or provide us with a link to a cloud drive with the photos, or any links for videos, gifs, and such. If you have a specific order of photos, label the photos so we know where to add them

• Social media links so we can credit you!
